Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with the Lord, Moses removed the veil from his face. Verses 34-35 set before us the pattern that occurs going forward. Then Moses put a veil over his face after speaking with the people. So all of Israel came near and Moses commanded the people with the words the Lord had spoken with him on the mountain. Even though all of Israel was afraid to come near Moses, Moses called for them to come to him and he talked with them. It seems that Moses’ communion with the Lord left an imprint on him in the form of a radiant glow, a reflection of being in the presence of God’s glory. The people are afraid to come near Moses because of his face shining the way it did. Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, saw that the skin on his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. So when Moses comes down, everything changes. Moses has a radiant face because he spoke with the Lord. Verse 29 tells us that after these 40 days on the mountain, the skin of Moses’ face was shining because he had been talking with God. Open your copies of God’s word to Exodus 34:29-35 and we will read about this scene. But now the scriptures want us to know that something unusual had happened to Moses because he had been on the mountain with the Lord. The tabernacle project is restored for God is going to live with his people and bring them into the promised land. This glorious name of the Lord is displayed in God keeping his covenant with Israel and going with his people to the promised land. The Lord has displayed his name to Moses, that he is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).Moses has been on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights writing on the two tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments (34:28). When we come into relationship with God, we must repent of our sin, and allow God to clean us. Just like a diamond, we must be cleaned and polished. God sees our value and the potential for us to shine and bring Him glory. But He doesn’t toss us aside, as a miner would toss a worthless rock. When God finds us, we are often covered with the elements of this world. Just like a diamond, we may go through times of pressure and heat. He sees each of us as precious and beautiful. When cut or shaped well, a diamond shines bright in the presence of light. The jeweler cuts multiple facets into a diamond that make it reflect light better. The cut isn’t just the shape of the diamond, such as marquis, round, and princess. Regardless of the coloring and the diamond’s history, a diamond has the potential to shine brilliantly! The diamond’s sparkle is a result of its cut. They can be white, yellow, brown/chocolate, and sometimes they have black spots. The color of a diamond depends upon which elements are present when the diamond was formed. After they are found, diamonds must be cleaned and polished. Naturally, a diamond is rough, not shiny. It’s found in the ground with various types of dirt and elements. And, when it’s found there is dirt and a film covering it. I discovered that a diamond is formed under great pressure and heat. I began by doing a little research on diamonds.
